Timpanist and percussionist Gregory Goodall has performed on over 800 Hollywood motion pictures for such notable composers as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Randy Newman, David Newman, John Debney, Christophe Beck, Joel McNeely, and Hans Zimmer. His list of film credits includes the popular scores to the recent Star Wars films (The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, and The Force Awakens), La La Land, Cars 3, The Secret Life of Pets, Frozen, Monsters Inc., Ice Age, Life of Pi, Avatar, Toy Story, Toy Story IV, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Air Force One, and Jurassic Park.
Mr. Goodall serves as Principal Timpani for the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra under James Conlon, Music Director, and he is a founding member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He frequently performs as Principal Timpanist for major ballet companies, such as American Ballet Theater and Joffrey Ballet, and he has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Pasadena Symphony. Mr. Goodall was featured at a Percussive Arts Society Convention, has performed chamber music with Pierre Boulez, and has participated in the St. Bart’s Music Festival in the Caribbean.
Mr. Goodall is a member of the faculty at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music where he teaches timpani and percussion. Previously, he has taught at CSULB, UCSB, and CSUN. He received a BA in Music and a MFA in Music Performance Practices from UCLA, and his teachers include William Kraft, Mitchell Peters, and Charles DeLancey.
